Tips on How to Organize Home Office
Here are some tips on how to organize home office.
Designate a Space in Your Home that is ONLY Used as Your Business Office
This is important for two reasons.
First, it is important for your own sanity that you keep your home and work separate, especially if you are working out of your home.
You need to be able to say to yourself, "Right now I'm in my office and I'm going to focus on my work," and then be able to leave your office and not have to think about your work when you are in the rest of your home.
Another reason this is very important is that if you are claiming a part of your rent as business rent on your tax return, you need to be able to show that the office space you are claiming is clearly and solely your office space and not occupied for any personal use.
Put Stuff Away
Have a filing cabinet or drawer that you can put anything you're not using in. Have a special file for each of your clients in this filing cabinet drawer, and always put all your clients stuff in that file so you can easily access it.
Taking an extra minute to do this well save you hours down the road.
This way you have a clean, clutter-free workspace so you can work efficiently.
Keep an In and an Out Box for Each Client
Get a stack of trays or a desk organizer that let's you stand up folders, and have a separate in and out tray or folder for each client. This way you can easily move back and forth between clients without mixing anything up.
